EMDR Intensives for Busy Schedules

When your schedule is packed with parenting and work, you need a therapy option that will give you results in a condensed amount of time.
You’ve done years of therapy building insight into your patterns. You’ve exhausted the cognitive tools and practiced mindfulness. Now that constant work to feel better is exhausting you, too.
You already did your homework on EMDR and feel excited to get started. But your schedule makes it hard to commit to a weekly schedule.
I offer convenient, virtual EMDR intensives throughout New York and Colorado.
EMDR Intensive in NYC for High Achieving Professionals
If you’re a high achieving professional finding me because you feel deep shame, believe to your core that you aren’t as capable as everyone around you thinks you are, and are just waiting for everyone around you to figure it out – welcome. This offer is for you.
When chronic self doubt fuels perfectionism and over-performance, we need to go deep into your background to find the earlier wounds.
Stay with me here. I know this sounds scary. And like a lot.
This is why EMDR intensives are so helpful for high-achievers.
While these early wounds drove you to be the successful professional you are, they still need attention and healing. Intensive EMDR provides the time to desensitize to the recent events and negative self talk that have taken over your system AND heal these early attachment wounds.
The biggest benefit of an EMDR intensive is that it works for your schedule. When your schedule is complicated, intensive EMDR sessions make it easy to commit to therapy.
Why choose intensive EMDR therapy in New York?
Intensive EMDR for chronic self doubt in high performers
If you’re a high-achieving professional driven by chronic self doubt, you’re always afraid of “being found out.” You push yourself to your limits so that nobody will suspect that you don’t really belong in your role.
You have evidence that suggests you’re smart and capable, but inside you just can’t believe it. You stay late completing each task to make sure that no one will question you. Even if they did, their criticism couldn’t possibly be worse than what you already tell yourself.
Rather than exploring the evidence for and against whether that “k” in Slack actually means your boss is about to fire you, you’d like to just move through life feeling competent.
You’re ready to stop dwelling on the small things.
You want to do therapy right this time
You’ve been to therapy. You’ve practiced the tools.
But you still find yourself spiraling into self criticism and shame.
You’ve heard EMDR can help with old wounds and the way you relate to yourself and others.
You’re ready for that like now now.
Putting the intense in intensive EMDR therapy in NYC
Intensive EMDR is not for everyone – the word “intense” is in there for a reason.
But so much healing can happen in a lengthened session. That’s the magic of this treatment option and why I offer it.
When your schedule is unpredictable and makes it hard to be consistent in attending therapy, it can be hard to start EMDR following the standard protocol. When we don’t see each other for 2 – 3 weeks, a lot of life has happened and it’s hard to return to the work of healing older patterns.
Intensive EMDR sessions give you the freedom to get through a lot of healing so that those 2-3 week stretches feel manageable.
Three-hour intensives provide time to get through processing.
Most traumas require more than a single, 55-minute session to process fully. Following an incomplete EMDR processing session, you leave feeling resourced but still tender. The old roots we worked on continue to show up and drive your emotional and behavioral responses between sessions. When you can dedicate 3 hours to a single EMDR target, you can find significant relief that day that lasts until our next session together.
After a 3-hour intensive, you leave feeling GOOD. It’s hard work, but exhilarating (not unlike your day-to-day). You feel tired, but also ready to lean into your family. You’re excited to return to work feeling confident. Even if it’s a few weeks before you can move onto the next target, it doesn’t feel urgent because you’re already experiencing so much relief.

Frequently Asked Questions About EMDR Intensives in New York, NY
Everything you need to know before getting started.
How do I get started?
The first step is to contact me. We will schedule a 15-minute consultation call to get to know each other and discuss the intensive option more in-depth. If it feels like a good fit for both of us, we’ll schedule a 75-minute initial assessment session so that I can get a better sense of your history and the current impacts on your mental health.
I prefer to only offer an intensive following a thorough history taking. You need a chance to get to know me before you can feel safe enough to process trauma. In return, I need a sense of who you are so that I can support you through an intensive 3-hour session effectively.
How are EMDR intensives in NYC structured?
I offer lengthened 90-minute EMDR sessions as well as intensive 3-hour EMDR sessions. I structure the 3-hour sessions differently depending on which EMDR phase we’re in. If we’ve only met once, then your first intensive session will be a combination of resourcing, learning about the different modes of bilateral stimulation, and then moving into desensitization and reprocessing work.
3-hour sessions always include breaks as needed for both of us. I only start intensives to people who have completed an intake (intake is always 75 minutes). You can choose to start intensives at any time during therapy with me.
You can read more about my approach to EMDR therapy here.
How do I know if EMDR intensives are right for me?
This is a question I get all the time in my practice. EMDR intensives are definitely right for you if you find that the 55-minute structure isn’t enough anymore, whether that’s due to not getting as much relief as you hoped for in a 55-minute EMDR session or because your schedule won’t allow for it.
EMDR intensives are useful for a variety of presentations and experiences. Bring your questions to therapy or to your consultation call.
Are EMDR intensives covered by insurance?
Sessions longer than 60 minutes are not going to be reimbursable by insurance. Many of my clients appreciate the privacy of not using their health insurance for therapy, but this does strain the accessibility of intensive EMDR sessions.
I offer reduced rates for people working in non-profits and community healthcare settings. Let me know if this is you so that we can discuss.
What kind of support do you offer after an intensive session?
Before we go into an intensive EMDR session, I’ll collect releases to be able to coordinate with anyone else providing you with care (psychiatrist, primary care provider, if you see another therapist primarily, etc.). I’ll follow up with both you and those providers within 48 hours of your EMDR intensive sessions.
I offer intensive EMDR sessions via secure telehealth in New York and Colorado.
