FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

What is reproductive trauma?

Reproductive traumas are traumas that occur during the perinatal period and include fertility-related trauma. The people I see in my practice have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss, difficulty conceiving and IVF, the difficult experience of being misbelieved by medical providers and systems, forced to terminate a pregnancy due to complications, and still birth.

Perinatal trauma transcends the partner who was physically impacted, disrupting how you and your partner relate to and receive love from each other. This is why I offer EMDR to support your own trauma processing and couples therapy to repair your relationship. Effectively healing perinatal trauma requires both.

What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. In these posts, I walk through the EMDR process generally and for perinatal loss.

What is the Gottman Method?

The Gottman Method is a couples’ therapy method developed by Dr. John and Julie Gottman. Through this method, we will primarily meet together, though at the beginning I will conduct and individual assessment with each partner. This is a systematic approach to building meaningful connection and support in your relationship. I offer 12 weeks of couples therapy in this package to focus on reconnection after trauma.

Do I have to pay up front?

No, you are never expected to pay for services you don’t receive. My practice has a 24 business hour cancellation policy and you will be charged for canceling late or missing a scheduled appointment.

Do I have to attend 12 weeks of therapy?

We can achieve meaningful healing within 12 intensive weeks, but you will choose what works best for you. Some people and couples do not need to attend all 12 weeks. Some people choose to continue with individual therapy beyond 12 weeks, but stop couples therapy early. This is a flexible program with the ability to tailor to your needs, which is why I only charge per service.

I am not in a relationship. Is this right for me?

Probably not. Please contact me about individual services instead. We can still discuss short-term, focused EMDR work, but this package would not fit your needs.

Is this covered by insurance?

EMDR and Gottman-method couples therapy are evidence-based practices that insurance companies cover. I will charge you out-of-network for this program and provide a superbill. You will need to contact your insurance company directly to determine your coverage. I am open to discussing what will best work for your particular circumstances.
