About Skye

I’m an EMDR-certified trauma therapist practicing virtually in New York City and Denver, CO. Skye D Ross, LCSW, PLLC grew from my desire to support people in their personal growth or professional development.
My Therapy Practice
My specialties include chronic stress, anxiety, trauma, substance use disorders, supporting members of the LGBTQ+ community, therapy for mental health practitioners, perinatal mental health, and adjustment to/management of living with a chronic illness. I practice therapy with cultural humility and a trauma-informed, anti-racist approach. Through my practice and training, I have learned that “trauma” is nuanced. I will follow your lead in labeling your experiences while bringing awareness to your physical, mental, and behavioral responses.
A few of the principles that guide my practice are:
- You are the expert in your own life
- Past experiences impact our present-day functioning and how we relate to others
- You are resilient and can fortify neural pathways that enable you to function more healthily and feel better
My Theoretical Orientation & Experience
I am a cognitive-behavioral, anti-oppressive and somatic trauma therapist. My clinical training includes cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and anti-racist clinical practices and somatic work. I will support you with building awareness of the myriad ways your past experiences impact your present-day functioning. Trauma and other stressors resonate beneath our awareness and affect our current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
I earned my master’s degrees in social work and public health from Columbia University in 2015. Since then, I have provided psychotherapy to people living with HIV and other chronic illnesses, those directly and indirectly impacted by the criminal injustice system, and in community mental health centers and private psychotherapy practice. Having worked in and supported staff in nonprofits for a long time, I am keenly aware of the effects of burnout and compassion fatigue. I am passionate about providing therapy to other therapists and healthcare workers.
My Consultation Practice
With a passion for supporting clinicians’ professional development, I have supervised social workers, mental health counselors, clinical supervisors, and case managers in New York and Colorado since 2017. As a consultant and program manager, I have supported agencies in building internal policies and training staff to address crisis situations that integrate best clinical, ethical, and anti-racist/anti-oppressive practices. I continue to offer consultation to new clinical supervisors and clinicians moving into non-profit management.
As an EMDR consultant-in-training, I utilize reflective supervision and an integrated developmental and theoretical model. We will explore your experience as an EMDR therapist and practice of self-awareness. We will explore themes of clinician and patient safety, our own identities, and how to skillfully support your clients’ progress through EMDR. You can expect that I will model limited self disclosure and integrating CBT, IFS, and somatic work into your EMDR practice. As a consultant-in-training, I offer a discounted package. Seeking consultation with a CIT allows you to benefit not only from my expertise, but from the expertise of the consultants I see for my “consultation of consultation.”
